Beating dead horse: "this game rewards skill not time spent playing"
I have heard this many times "this game rewards skill not time spent playing".
Reward? What reward?
The game won't make you smarter. You don't need to explore the content except for the first time. It comes down to items. - but the game doesn't have any better item for you either. Then it becomes a status symbol game.
RPG is all about uppering stats for your character. Any hardcore RPGer would agree with that. This game at high end comes down to farming grind that get you items that looks slight better and give neglegible benefits to your character. Isn't this rather boring as hell?
Look how stupid the economy is. Ecto, fell blade, chaos axe, IDS those things don't mean anything yet they are the most expensive items in the game. A 15% sword costs 3 times more than a 13% one. What freakin difference does it make???
This game is making everyone everyone desperate about that tiny little margin that they can fill towards a "perfect character"
I really think this game need to step into the cycle of better gear and spells that enable you for more difficult encounters. There is just no reward in this game at this moment.
If you disagree, tell me if this game rewards skill, then what kind of reward I can get knowing I have played this game to the best of my abilities already.

That is my conspiracy theory that I havn't brought up yet. The maker want you to stop playing until expansion comes out so you don't take up their server bandwidth.

It's easy to get nearly perfect stats, but the thing in this game is I think that it is hard to get perfect items, and not just one, but many for many different builds. And that on all your character, this way, it does upper your stats doesn't it? Or did I miss your whole point?

Last time I check, RPG meant roleplaying game. And last time I checked that, it means more than just upping stats.
Quite frankly, there is hardly any roleplaying going on in GW.

Well items are what gives your character the stats. Getting perfect item is not fun since it only makes the character marginally better. Getting items that has a very rare mod is much more fun, but this game has so few of them. One of the few really hot item in GW is + hp component and people are bragging +29 over +28. Geeze what's the point? I got a +25 and I think that serves the purpose.
A counter example of a good item is diablo's obsidian ring of zodiac. It gives your character a significant boost. I hunted countless hours in hell and finally had the chance for a 33%/+18 amulet. It was quite satisfying. Yes there are also items like indestructable thinking cap, royal circlet, king's sword of haste, civerb's cudgel... etc etc. All of these are hard or very hard to find and modify and they are coveted even years after the game was released. No such items /dynamics in GW, only stupid cool items like IDS / Fissure armor that people are also spending countless hours on.

You can role play with other role players. I play RPG for rewards, like most people do.

This is the suggestion forum, where we put forth specific, well thought out ideas and suggestions people think would improve GuildWars as a whole. This is not a suggestion, it's much more of a rant with a little bit of "Fix this game" in there, which doesn't lead to any discussion about actually improving the game, it only leads to debates we've had many many times before. I'd tell you to use the search button, but I think most of the other threads about whether this games really skill vs time played have been closed for senseless arguing as well. Either way, this is not the place for that.
